Cuala GAA is delighted to announce that Mattie Kenny has been appointed as Head Coach of the Cuala Senior Hurling team.

Mattie, who hails from  Duniry, County Galway, enjoyed a distinguished playing and coaching career with his club Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry. He also represented Galway at minor, Under 21 and Senior levels and featured on the All-Ireland Under 21 winning team in 1983.

Most recently, Kenny, who  is recognised as one of the most highly-regarded hurling coaches in the country, served alongside Anthony Cunningham as Galway  Senior Hurling Coach from 2011 to 2013, having been handed the reins after guiding the county’s U21s to All-Ireland glory in 2011. Mattie had previously coached  Galway’s 2005 All-Ireland U21 winning team.  

In 2012, they brought Galway a first Leinster Senior Hurling Championship success  and took the Tribesmen to the brink of a first Liam McCarthy Cup success in 24 years,  losing to Kilkenny after a replay.

In 2013 Mattie and Kilkenny’s Martin Fogarty guided  the victorious Leinster team  to success in the Super 11’s Celtic challenge played at Notre Dame University.
