All coaches/mentors, prior to commencing their role(s) with children must meet the statutory and association requirements for coaching underage players listed below. All coaches/mentors, new and existing, will be reviewed and ratified by An Coiste (Club Executive) on an annual basis to ensure full compliance with these requirements. Cuala and all GAA clubs are subject to national audits by Sport Ireland, Tusla and the National Children’s Office (GAA).

All adult mentors are also expected to meet these requirements as we often have juvenile players playing up on adult teams.

Coach / Mentor requirements:

  • Current full membership with Cuala. (Membership registration is required to be covered by insurance).
  • An in-date Garda Vetting Letter from either GAA, LGFA or Camogie Association.
  • An in-date Child Safeguarding Certificate (either GAA or Sport Irl. approved)
  • A minimum coaching qualification (Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games or ICGG Award) from GAA.
  • Acknowledge that they have read the GAA Code of Behaviour (underage).

Follow the steps to meet these requirements below.

Steps to Coach / Mentor Compliance and Ratification

  • Step 2:

Check your Foireann account for details of your garda vetting, safeguarding and coaching qualifications. These can be found in the ‘Qualifications and Vetting’ tab on your Foireann Profile. Please note that your Tobar account needs to be connected to your Foireann profile to view your child safeguarding and coaching qualifications. Find out how to do this here.

If you do not have these already or need to update them

    • Apply for Garda Vetting on Foireann. The application process is outlined here.
    • Apply for Safeguarding training. Find out more here.
    • Apply for GAA Coaching Qualification by emailing mark.brennan.gpo.dublin@gaa.ie for next available course dates
  • Step 3:

Notify your team lead/section secretary of your details above so that they can be recorded on the Coach Register and request him/her to include your name in the annual Coach Ratification Process. Contact details can be found here.

  • Step 4:

Check that your name is included on the list of ratified coaches. Follow up with your section secretary if required to ensure that this has been done and that you are listed under the correct team.

It is the responsibility of each club member/volunteer to ensure that they are in full compliance before taking on the role of coach/mentor.
