An effective Female Liaison Officer (FLO) makes a valuable contribution to the overall player experience. The FLO provides an additional, accessible point of contact for players and supports communication between players and team management.
By supporting communication, encouraging participation and helping players feel heard, the role can positively influence the wider team environment.
The FLO role is separate from coaching, team selection and tactical decision-making.

- Communication: provide an additional communication link between players and team management.
- Listening: be an accessible point of contact for players to raise questions, concerns or feedback.
- Signposting and escalation: help direct players to the appropriate safeguarding, medical or club support where an issue falls outside the FLO role.
- Supporting participation: listen for signs of disengagement or potential dropout and raise these appropriately.
- Remaining neutral: remain separate from coaching, team selection and tactical decision-making.
Where an issue requires safeguarding, medical or other specialist support, the FLO does not investigate or manage the matter but helps ensure it is raised through the appropriate channel.

Female Liaison Officers must meet the relevant membership, vetting and safeguarding requirements before commencing the role.
All FLOs, new and existing, are included in Cuala’s annual ratification and compliance processes.

Recommended Training
To support volunteers undertaking the role, the LGFA provides a self-led Female Liaison Officer eLearning module on the Tobar Gaelic Games learning platform.
Completion of the FLO-specific module is recommended to support understanding of the purpose, communication responsibilities and boundaries of the role.
