Something of a mixed weekend last, with the senior footballers beaten but magnificent display by the U15 footballers to claim the clubs first ever U15 Division 1 Football crown

Congratulations to Cuala U11’s “Gladiators” team who were close runners up in the U11, Division 1 South Football league

The U14 hurlers are contesting 3rd position in Division 1 after a good win over St.Vincents in the league. One more game for the year left.

Well done to the U15 Footballers who beat Ballyboden 3-10 to 0-6 the win the Championship last Sunday. It was a devasting display against the former U14 All-Ireland Champions. With goals from Sean Treacy and Conor O’Sullivan early in the game the boys were flying. The coup de grace came about mid-way through the first half when big Andrew Murphy picked up a ball out on the sideline about 30m from end line. With nothing on, he curved one – Maurice Fitzgerald style – with the outside of the boot which just sailed into the top corner. 12 points up. Despite a valiant second half there was no way back for the Boden boys. They just could not penetrate a rock-solid Cuala defense where captain Kevin Killian was outstanding. Cuala were dominant in almost every position. The other pleasing aspect was the huge Cuala turnout from all sections of the club, adult, ladies, juvenile. Great to see it The Mentors would like to thank the large Cuala following who travelled to Clonshaugh to support them. (Photos of the final are at this link http://picasaweb.google.com/CualaGAA/U15FootballChampionshipFinal2010 ).

The U15 Hurlers are in the Hurling Championship final on Sunday week (October 31st) in Parnell Park against Na Fianna is a curtain raiser to the Senior Hurling County Final. All support welcome.

Finally the U15’s would like to thank Maurice O’Callaghan of O’Callaghan Kelly Solicitors for sponsoring their Double Championship Final commemorative Hoodies and T Shirts.

Hard luck to the Senior footballers who were beaten by a very strong St.Brigids side in the Intermediate final. Brigids are a major force in Dublin football once more, contesting junior, intermediate and senior finals this season. They were the better side on the day and our boys never got going and ultimately did not do themselves justice. But its a young Cuala side, well coached with talented footballers and this experience will stand to them in the coming seasons. Also even in the pain of defeat, it was great to see Des Cahill and the team back in the clubhouse on Sunday evening to hand out medals and congratulate the U15s. From such small gestures are strong clubs built.
