The Cuala 2000s hosted an Under 12 hurling blitz in Thomastown on a damp May Bank Holiday Monday. 11 teams from 7 clubs arrived in fine spirits despite the heavy rain and over 150 young hurlers played their hearts out during an enjoyable day of top quality hurling. Cuala, Lucan Sarsfields and Ballinteer St Johns represented Dublin with Salthill Knocknacarra (Galway), Mullinavat (Kilkenny), Naas (Kildare) and Bray Emmets (Wicklow) also taking part.
In the end Naas stole the show, taking away both trophies on offer – in the Shield Final Naas defeated Ballinteer while in the Division 1 Final Naas pulled away only in the last few minutes to see off a gallant and hardworking Cuala team in front of a large and vocal crowd. Cuala’s other team finished in third place in the Shield with a fine win in their playoff game.
The 2000s group would like to thank all of the visiting teams and their coaches/supporters and also those who helped in any way – those who prepared the pitches, helped with the catering, refereed the games or simply cheered on the lads – thank you all for making it another memorable day for our group.
