About the Hyde Park Sports Centre Project / Faoin Tionscadal

The Hyde Park Community Sports Centre Project will provide state of the art facilities in Hyde Park for Cuala members, project partners Dalkey United and St. John of God Adult Services, and the wider community. The project will entail demolition of the existing Cuala and Dalkey United clubhouses, and their replacement by a contemporary structure that can better facilitate the activities of these sports clubs and the other community groups that currently also use these facilities.

Central to the project will be the main Cuala Clubhouse building, that will provide a new ‘Home 4 Cuala‘.  The building will be 70% larger than our existing clubhouse building and will include a larger sports hall, indoor wall ball to develop skills in hurling and football, a gym big enough for a team session to facilitate strength and conditioning training, a video analysis room, a fitness studio and a physio room.

A separate section with own entrance will accommodate a new clubhouse for our neighbours Dalkey United, with upgraded dressing rooms and a meeting and events space with indoor viewing over Dalkey United’s pitch.

The Sports Centre will also house a community Café which is envisioned as becoming a new social space for club members and the community to meet together.

Project Status

Full planning permission for the project was granted in July 2021. The project is now fully funded, thanks to a combination of fundraising and donations by Cuala members, project partners and the community, a contribution from Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, and the successful application for the Government’s Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund grant.

Hyde Park Sports Centre Features

Sports Hall

The sports hall will be optimised for indoor training, larger scale fitness and conditioning sessions and community outreach. The hall will feature a wood sprung floor, adjacent storage space for equipment, and our first purpose-built hurling wall. It will include sound insulation to reduce noise and echo.

Club Facilities

The new state-of-the-art Gym will have capacity for full squad sessions and has been designed in collaboration with our adult sections. It will lead into a purpose-built Fitness Studio to the front of the building.

A Team Analysis Room next to the Fitness Studio will be equipped with audio visual equipment that will facilitate video analysis of teams’ play. It will be a flexible space that will also be a meeting room for the club and other community groups.

In addition, there will be changing facilities, an office, and a small club shop.

Café

A light-filled café fronting onto Hyde Road will provide a welcoming place for our neighbours to meet, parents to have a coffee while keeping an eye on their children in the playground, and for those in a need a break having visited Hyde Park to exercise the dog or simply to enjoy a walk in the open spaces.

The café will also be a place for club members to gather for team planning meetings, to play music, or to meet friends. Beidh fáilte roimh cách agus comhluadar trí Ghaeilge.

Building Sustainability

The development sets new standard for green sports facilities.

Features of the building will include advanced insulation, sound proofing, discrete solar panels to provide heating and electricity, an extensive recycling programme, a covered bike shed, and a green roof. An A3 BER will place the building’s rating amongst the highest 1.5% of non-residential buildings in the country for energy efficiency. In addition, it will be the first sports facility in Ireland to be completed to LEED Gold standard, the most widely used and recognised green building rating system in the world.

Dalkey United Clubhouse

As part of the Hyde Park Project, the building will incorporate a separate (standalone) section to accommodate a new clubhouse for our neighbours, Dalkey United.

This will ensure the efficient use of the entire space and provide value for money from the investment in the new building. The redevelopment of the Dalkey United clubhouse will feature upgraded dressing rooms and a meeting and events space with indoor viewing over Dalkey United’s pitch.

Cuala Clubhouse Redevelopment Subcommittee

A Cuala Clubhouse Redevelopment Subcommittee has been formed, comprising key positions of An Coiste and members of the former Home 4 Cuala Subcommittee who drove the project to its current stage. The Subcommittee will work with Hyde Park Sports Centre project stakeholders in an overall governance structure which is currently being determined, reporting back to the Cuala Coiste at designated intervals.
