A female liaison officer (FLO) is the female official required to be part of the management team for teams with females under the age of 18. Each team should appoint one or more female liaison officers to act as a key link between management team, mentors, players and club executive.

Female Liaison Officer responsibilities may include:

  • Act as a female presence on the Management Team
  • Liaise between the Team (management and players) and the Club Executive
  • Liaise between the players and the management team
  • Ensure training and training methods are appropriate for females and target age group
  • Ensure Code of Best Practice is adhered to i.e. Code of Conducts, Travel Permission Forms, Parental Consent Forms
  • Act as an advisory resource for players
  • Organise logistics where required

Practical Responsibilities:

  • Be present on the pitch during training/matches
  • Be present in dressing room and be the last to leave
  • Ensure First Aid kit is present at training/matches and is fully stocked.
  • Deal with any issues/injuries
  • Supervise toilet trips
  • Wait until all girls are collected

Female Liaison Officers, prior to commencing their role(s) with children must meet the statutory and association requirements for working with underage players listed below. All FLOs, new and existing, will be reviewed and ratified by An Coiste (Club Executive) on an annual basis to ensure full compliance with these requirements. Cuala and all GAA clubs are subject to national audits by Sport Ireland, Tusla and the National Children’s Office (GAA).

Female Liaison Officer requirements:

  • Current full membership with Cuala. (Membership registration is required to be covered by insurance).

  • An in-date garda vetting letter from either GAA, LGFA or Camogie Association.

  • An in-date child safeguarding certificate (either GAA or Sport Irl. approved)

Steps to Ratification and Compliance as FLO

  • Step 2:

    Check your Foireann account for details of your vetting and safeguarding qualifications. These can be found in the ‘Qualifications and Vetting’ tab on your Foireann Profile. Please note that your Tobar account needs to be connected to your Foireann profile to view your child safeguarding certification. Find out how to do this here.

    If you do not have these already or need to update them:

    • Apply for Garda Vetting on Foireann. The application process is outlined here.
    • Apply for Safeguarding training. Find out more here.
  • Step 3:

    Notify your team lead/section secretary of your details above so that they can be recorded on the Coach/Mentor Register and request him/her to include your name in the annual Ratification Process.

  • Step 4:

    Check that your name is included on the list of ratified coaches/mentors. Follow up with your section secretary if required to ensure that this has been done and that you are listed under the correct team.

    It is the responsibility of each volunteer to ensure that they are in full compliance before taking on the role of FLO.
