I am sorry to announce that Willie Maher is leaving Cuala as the Senior Hurling Manager.
Willie steered the hurling team over the last two years to two Dublin County Championships and a league title and in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, was robbed of the opportunity to lead the team through another All Ireland Club Championship campaign.
Willie said, “Our achievements over the past two years were only made possible through the hard work, and commitment of a group of extremely dedicated players and a backroom team that bought into a common goal and took tremendous pride in representing Cuala GAA. I thank all the players and supporters as it has been my privilege to manage Cuala’s senior hurling. I also encourage the Cuala family to stay together, work together, and continue to persevere through these tough times .”
The players and management would like to thank Willie, most sincerely, for the achievements he brought to the team through his hard work and management skills. Willie has a young family and it has proved to be a personal challenge to continue to travel, both pre and post Covid restrictions, to Cuala. Willie has recently taken up a new post in a leadership position in Kilkenny and hope it is a success for him.
Willie has asked that I particularly express his gratitude to the outstanding group of Cuala players who he was privileged to manage. He is looking forward to the next chapter of his hurling management career – training his three wonderful daughters!
I am sure all members of Cuala will join me in wishing Willie well for the future and we will be watching with great interest his future in GAA management.
