Three weeks ago we were rocked by news of the tragedy that happened in Berkeley, California.

Aoife Beary was one of those seriously injured. Her family has been involved in our club over many years, and they have asked that we publish this update on her condition so that we are aware of what the latest situation on her condition is.

The Beary family are overwhelmed by the support, best wishes, and prayers received for themselves and Aoife from friends and colleagues far and wide over the last two weeks.

Aoife’s condition has stabilised following her emergency transfer from Highland Hospital to the Stanford Medical Centre, Palo Alto for successful heart surgery on 26th June.

She still remains in a critical condition including ongoing surgery and her serious head injury remains the main concern.

She has made steady progress over the last number of days, and both her medical team and parents are optimistic that she will make a good recovery. This will be a long and slow road to recovery over many months to come.

It is expected that her parents Mike and Angela will remain at her bedside for the foreseeable future, and the family are currently making arrangements for Aoife’s sister Anna and brother Tim to travel to Stanford to join them.

We will update with news of progress from California as and when we can.  For now our thoughts and prayers remain with Aoife and the family.
