Cuala’s new Games Promotion Officer, Barry Burke, has been busy getting the feel of the club and introducing himself to some of the club’s teams.

He is currently hard at work with next years U14 Boys group and will be starting work with their female counterparts as soon as they get back from Cloud 9.

Below he gives us a bit of background on himself.

`

I hail from Ardfinnan in Co. Tipperary but currently live in Ranelagh.

My background is in health and fitness and I have gained a certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness and a degree in Recreation and leisure management.

I have built up over 6 year’s experience as a fitness instructor and continue to run bootcamps on an occasional basis.

I have been involved in Gaelic games as a player for around 25 years and as a coach for over 10 years.

My main background as a player is with Gaelic football playing at junior club level in Tipperary and I also played hurling up to minor level.

I also spent some years coaching with Ardfinnan dealing mainly with the u-10 – u-14 age groups.

I moved to Canada for 2 ½ years and whilst there I spent 6 months as a Games Promotion officer going into Canadian High Schools trying to promote Gaelic Football in the Greater Toronto region for my club Brampton Roger Casements.

I helped run the clubs academy and juvenile coaching programme, captained an intermediate championship winning team and helped with the coaching of the club’s ladies and men’s adult teams over 2 seasons.

I look forward to meeting all the players and coaches over the coming weeks and months and if anyone has any questions or requires any help please don’t hesitate to contact me on 086-0603054 or email on barry.burke.gpo.dublin@gaa.ie
