On 22 Nov, 32 players, mentors and parents from the minor panel headed off for a hike. All (well not quite all) came prepared with suitable hiking and rain gear and departed for the hills of Wicklow at 9am. The hike started at the Sallygap with a trip around Lough Dan followed by a challenging climb to the hilltop (some hill). Everyone managed to complete the trek with some finding the exertion a little more difficult than others. Pride of place goes to the elder statesman, Johnny Sheanon who, giving up a few years, just a few, to the other mentors, showed them how it’s done. All those years of childhood climbing the hills of Cavan at last served a purpose. Shay Hayes was unable to attend (no valid excuse offered) but played his part by having civil defence and rescue helicopters on standby. This trip would not have been possible without the expert leadership of Kevin and Ciara Spain. To them, many thanks.
