Cuala’s Minor B footballers brought skill, drama and above all determination to come out victors in their deferred 2020 C’ship Semi Final in hyde park on Sunday 22nd August against a physical Clanna Na Gael side. Cuala were sharpest out of the traps with an early goal by Morton Ainscough settling the minors after some solid work in midfield by Ross Mason and Jack O’Sullivan. Both sides exchanged points and Cuala went in at half time in front by one point after the visitors were awarded a penalty and were quickest to the rebound to convert after an excellent save by Jack Jenkins.

They say goals wins big games and Cuala didn’t disappoint in the 2nd half with two crackers. After a searing run at the heart of CnG by Lúca Sheehan, Cuala were awarded a penalty of their own which was superbly converted by corner back Padraic Myers. However CnG wouldn’t go away and went in front by two points in the final stages, when another twist in this entertaining C’ship battle unfolded. Cuala built up patiently from their back line gaining inspiration from their influential sweeper Conall Ó Drisceoil, and with careful interplay and decision making by all the cuala forwards, Jamie Conroy found enough space to get his shot off to fire past the CnG net minder. Special mention must go the defensive work effort throughout this game led by their captain Darrach Ó Cofaigh Byrne who led the lock out along with Cuala’s impact substitutes to eliminate any opportunity that Clanna Na Gael where going to get to steal a late winner. Cuala Minor B’s now march on to their C’ship final next Sunday 29th in O’Toole park after an enthralling football game witnessed by all who lined the sidelines today in hyde park.
