Letter to Members – Appeal for new Referees

Dear Member,

Hope this appeal finds you and your family safe and well in these strange times.

As you may know there has been an increasing number of teams entering into competitions over the past seasons – this year will see further increases in the number of Cuala teams at Minor and Adult levels. This is not unique to Cuala as most Dublin clubs report the same levels of growth.

While the level of interest in the playing of Gaelic games is welcomed,  it is not without some challenges and the main concern at this time is that we have enough referees for the increased numbers of fixtures required for all of the new teams entering competitions.

And so, it is against this background that we are making this appeal for new referees – please give the matter some serious consideration. Cuala has currently only one referee among its membership and given the number of teams that we field in competitions we really should have a lot more.

The following is a joint request for new Referees issued on behalf of the County Referees Committee (Coiste an Réiteoirí) and the CCC.

As you are aware, in anticipation of the lifting of current Covid restrictions, CCC is preparing for the season ahead. This year (2021) we have received a significant increase in the number of teams entered in our competitions across both codes at Adult and Minor levels with a significant number of clubs entering more teams than any previous year.

With the increase in teams, combined with withdrawals due to Covid fears, age, etc. comes an additional requirement for new referees. We are already operating with insufficient referees and this increase in teams will put even more pressure on CCC being able to appoint referees for all games.

Without an increase in referee numbers CCC will be unable to guarantee referees for all games in the coming season.

Coiste na Réiteoirí will run a Foundation (Beginners) Course as soon as Public Health advice allows.

 Is Mise,
Seán MacNiocláis.

Rúnaí CCC Átha Cliath.
