They say the most important part of a long journey is the first step.  Well okay, the Cuala Christmas Hike is not what some Somalian families might call ‘long’ but we all agree that first step is important.  And its ready to be taken right now because today’s the day you need to book your diary for the 2013 event.  It’s scheduled to take place on Sunday 6th Jan in Glendalough.  If you were there last year, you’ll hardly need reminding here how enjoyable it was.  And if you helped raise funds last year, you’ll know, like our friends pictured here, how fulfilling it was too.

Like Cuala families, Somalis have a strong kinship network and a rich tradition of supporting those in need in their communities.  Despite their resilience, years of conflict, recurrent drought and cyclical flooding has caused nearly a third of the population to rely on humanitarian assistance.  Millions of people live without access to basic services such as clean water, education or health care.

Cuala’s Concern for Somalia is a charity fundraising initiative in the form of a Sponsored Hike in Glendalough on Sun 6th Jan 2013.  Sponsorship forms and more detailed arrangements will be available shortly.  All we need you to do now is to keep your diary free for the big day.
