DePaul is a homeless charity that provides support and shelter in Dublin. Last year, Cuala families were invited to offer Christmas presents to the men in their Back Lane Hostel. The response was amazing. This year, we’re turning our attention to the RENDU Apartments, a project for women and women with children who are homeless.
This family service works to help families with complex needs who need some help for a short period of time to learn and develop the skills necessary to move on and live confidently in their own new home. The programme offers self-contained apartments in Dublin’s North Inner City and welcomes women and children who are on the path to living independently. Families are encouraged to cook their own meals and manage their own accommodation to develop their independent living skills, seeking help and support in the process from the project staff.
So once again, Cuala is appealing to its members and supporters to help. Lets make Christmas a special one for the RENDU residents. We’re working in close co-operation with DePaul to assemble a set of suitable gifts specific to the needs of each of 42 RENDU housholds. Each unit has a unique profile ranging from a single resident to those with up to three children (the oldest is 8)
So gift packs might include .
- A small clothing item like a pair of pj’s
- A toy
- A selection box
- 1 Large Item such as a hoodie, coat, pair of pajamas
- 2 Small Items such as socks, underwear
- Toiletries including shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, razor, shaving foam
- Goodies such as a selection box, tin of biscuits
Although we’re targeting 42 RENDU households, we have a feeling Cuala families will take this match to extra time, so we have a game plan to deploy any surplus contributions to migrant males who are currently living in emergency accommodation
