Cuala had reason to be proud last weekend when our long list of inter county players grew by 2, and our list of Inter county captains by 1.
Jim O’Reilly and Odhrán MacGearailt, both main men on our rapidly improving under 14 team, were chosen to play on the Dublin selection which represented us all at this year’s Tony Forristal hurling tournament in Waterford.
As if that wasn’t honour enough for Cuala Jim was also chosen as captain of the team following in the (big) footsteps of greats like John Treacy, John Twomey, Cian and Con O’Callaghan.
The team, which was looked after by former intercounty stars Shane Martin, Aodhán De Paor and our own Donal Murphy among others, had a tough draw against Clare and needed to beat Antrim and hold them to less than 2 points because of an unusual reverse score difference rule used in the tournament….and would you believe it…Antrim scored 3 points…all frees…..so despite Jim defending like the 3 lads previously mentioned and Odhrán scoring a goal that Con would be proud of they had to be content with a trip to Maccy Ds and the respect of their peers.
