COUNTY CHAMPIONS ON A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Our Adult Women’s 3rd Football team were crowned the Dublin Ladies Football Junior J Champions on a dramatic night in Swords on Wednesday.

A equalising point from a last kick of the game free brought the game to Extra time and with the team trailing by two points after a full 80 minutes it needed a high ball into the box and a goal from star midfielder Mia Downey to grab the title right at the death.

A big crowd of Cuala supporters were on hand to cheer and cheer we did. Joint captains Edel Keating and Jo McNaughton were brilliant in defence and this was about the most dramatic game we will see all season.

It is a special group as we learned in this great article by Laura Spain last week, led by Phil Shaffrey, Ray Mulholland and the great Fintan Quill but built on their own strength of character, determination to give their all and outstanding joy in playing sport as it should be played.

“Our team is made up of women who are at various stages of life, from Leaving Cert to full time jobs, marriage, and even babies. Some players have been playing since they were small while many of us had never played a sport or hadn’t played much since childhood.”

GETTING THE PAPERWORK SORTED

We have just completed a major refurbishment and upgrade of the Cuala gym.

This has involved a complete gutting of the old bar area, removal of mock-beams, old unused air ducting, roof repairs, ceiling repairs, floor levelling, removal of old central heating system, walls plastered, complete electrical rewiring system, emergency lighting, both wired and wireless internet services and all walls/ceiling painted and decorated.

The gym has more than trebled in size with a comfortable capacity for a full adult squad of 33 players plus. Our senior players (all codes), our own certified S&C coach, and other external S&C coaches had a big input into its design and redevelopment.

It is very important that the right procedures are followed for everyone who wants to use it, both as teams and as individual (fully paid up) members of the club.

All the details of what you need to do and how you can be ready for the doors opening can be found at this link below. We are insisting on 100 percent compliance, with no exceptions for what is a great addition to the club and for which massive credit is due to all those who played a part.
