What a scene to behold – lifeless bodies strewn around the room – – grown men on their knees gasping for breath – health professionals attempting to shock them back to life. Another night at Coiste? Well almost. In fact it was Coiste members and a selection of Team Mentors leading the way in the new Cuala Health & Safety Programme. Under the direction of Zita McDermott, the Club is installing Defibrillator Units in each of its sites. And what better way to mark their arrival than to train as many people as possible in their use. A special CPR & Defibrillator Course is being expertly rolled-out by Linda Farren and everyone who has attended so far has commented on how worthwhile (and surprisingly simple) the sessions were. Coiste is fully committed to this programme – so much so that it is encouraging all Managers/Mentors and selected Staff to participate in the programme. But it’s not just them. Every member will benefit from the programme because one day – it could be you. For this reason, Coiste is asking every member – regardless of age or status, to contribute a once-off €5 to cover the cost of installing this vital equipment. But we hope you never need it.
