I’m sure I speak for everyone in Cuala when I welcome the appointment of Na Fianna’s John Horan as Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael.

I have today written to John to congratulate him on his election  – the first Dubliner in 97 years –  and to wish his well in his new role. It is well known that city-based clubs have different challenges to their rural counterparts but we all share key values of family and community and I have no doubt that John will do us all proud.

I told John that we in Cuala were particularly delighted to hear his comments on the role of the Club within the GAA and the wider community.  As you know, Cuala has been striving to be inclusive for all members of society and in the next year we hope to start a special needs GAA team.

I also expressed the hope that his first official match duty in Croke Park will be the  presentation of a trophy to a Dublin Club!
