As part of the 20×20 #ShowYourStripes campaign, the adult camogie section have asked the youngest juvenile girls groups (’08s and ’09s) to play when possible, in the half-time intervals at Senior 2 home fixtures. There is rarely a chance for both sections to link up, so are really looking forward to developing this initiative, which will start this week with a view to taking place again at available home matches.
The objectives are to bring adult and juvenile players, their supporters and parents closer; promote women and girls in sport along with increasing attendance at games. The half-time matches will form one of various initiatives the Women’s Section are working on for the 20×20 campaign.
Through creating more awareness of activities between both sections, we hope this will bring a greater focus to the game. Having our juveniles involved will also affect how they view their own potential by seeing leadership, confidence and accomplishment in other women….because if our young player’s can’t see it, they can’t be it.
