Adult Football League 5

Cuala 3-10 Templeogue Synge St. 1-2

A beautiful sunny Tuesday evening welcomed both teams to Shankill for this AFL 5 league game. Templeogue started the better and went into a 1-1 to 0-1 following two defensive lapses. However once we settled into the game the result was never in doubt. Some poor finishing meant that we only lead by 3 points at half time, 1-4 to 1-1, the goal being scored by Niall Carty in a move that started with Mark O’Grady in goal.

The second half was a much better performance and was built on a very strong defensive display. Outstanding performance from Luke and Dylan Tracey and Ronan Murdoch ensured that Templeogue only scored 1 point in the second half.

The midfield pairing of Conor Bennett and Jake Malone were totally dominant. Up front Niall Carty scored a second goal and Dylan Kennedy finished the ball to the net in another sweeping move. Points from Niall Carty, Cillian Sheanon, John O’Neill & Paul James ensured the victory.

Special thank you to the supporters that attended to watch both the 2nd and 3rd team games.

Adult Football League 5

Ballinteer St Johns 2-7 Cuala 2 -11

The longest day of the year saw us make the short journey to Marley Park to play Ballinteer St John’s in this Division 5 league clash.

We opened brightly but a strong breeze made shooting very difficult. We missed a few opportunities before Paul James got us on the scoreboard with a very good point. However we concede a goal against the run of play when a mishit free dropped short and was deflected into the net. However we soon recovered and 3 further points from Paul James and a long range point from Dylan Kennedy put us one point up. A very good kickout from Darragh O’Reilly was moved swiftly up the pitch and Colman Mckenna burst through and blasted the ball to the corner of the net. Half time arrived with us leading by 4 points.

The second half was a much tenser affair and Ballinteer upped the physical stakes but we responded very well. Cillian Sheanon scored a great goal and Paul James added further points in the second half. Ballinteer scored a second goal from a long ball and seemed to gather momentum when Eoin Neary was sent off following an off the ball incident. However we retained our composure and experience showed as we retained the ball and prevented Ballinteer from creating any scoring opportunities in the last 5 minutes. We held out for a well-deserved win.

There was very good defensive displays from Enda Kelly and Donal Lane while Eoin Neary and Cillian Sheanon were very effective upfront.

Special thank you to the 3 minor players who performed very well in their first foray into adult football.
