Junior C Championship

Game:  Cuala V Stars of Erin

Result:  Cuala 0-09 Stars of Erin 1-15

Cuala 3rd team footballers exited the C Championship with a quarter final loss to stars of Erin at a sun drenched Hyde park last Tuesday evening. Having been promoted last year from the D championship for this team to reach the quarters final was a superb achievement. However they met a fine side in Stars who now progress to the semi-final. Cuala started brightly with Ross Tierney very combative at midfield and early point from Owen Hackett and a Peter Smith free put Cuala ahead, Starts hit back with some fine score of their own but Cuala were performing well against a team 2 divisions above them and some lovely play form Keith Keogh and Spillane meant there was little between the sides as we headed to half time. Then came a hammer blow for Cuala, a lucky break went straight to their corner forward who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Half time Cuala 0-06 Stars of Erin 1-08

Cuala battled hard in the 2nd Half but the margin was always comfortable for Stars. Still it was excellent to see young players like Cillian Greene battled hard with older players like Keith Keogh and Kevin Dowling. Whilst the game may have ended in defeat the Cuala third team can reflect proudly on their championship run this year. We have integrated a lot of young players into the team whilst we have also seen the emergence of some real leaders in the team. The lads will now focus on their league campaign and will certainly give the C championship a right rattle next year.
